Research

Liz’s research focuses on the use of a novel class of nitric oxide releasing poly(ethylene glycol) copolymers to prevent restenosis following balloon angioplasty.  These hydrogels are able to deliver nitric oxide for up to 50 days, depending on material design, and have been shown to inhibit platelet adhesion and smooth muscle cell proliferation in vivo.  She is currently evaluating the effects of localized nitric oxide delivery from these materials in an experimental balloon angioplasty model.
